Welcome to the Wiki for Crew 1501

Oops. Sorry.

We've installed security patches and they appear to have hosed the calendar. Please contact a Crew member for details about the next event. Sorry.
In the meantime, click here to go to the new site (external link).

Help! We need youth and adults who want adventure throughout the year!

  • Our mission is to do the "ing" things. We've done shooting, hiking, camping, skating, and protecting (bushes from getting climbed upon by children).
  • The weekend of 8 Jan, we tried skiing and tubing (and pool, air hockey, DDR, ...), and other th-ings as we think of them.
    • Hope can you join us next time, because the Greater Pittsburgh Council (GPC) has invited us back.
    • We also met some really cool folks from Crew 1717 (external link) in Fredricksburg, VA. BTW, if you think tubing is lame, you should try it using Crew 1717 "rules" (must bring a bike pump and can of Pam next year).
    • See the small calendar in the upper right corner? Click on the "8" in January. Or click on "calendar" in the menu in the left column and go to 8 January. Hope you'll be pleasantly surprised!
  • Since Fall 2009, our Crew has had two monthly events, and done service projects (as staff). We lead monthly Varsity, Venturing and Ship Roundtables for Old Dominion District. We also help plan and run events for the National Capitol Area Teen Council (for example, Venturing After Dark). We may be few in number, but we can show you how a few can make a big difference. And a few more can do a lot more. Send us an e-mail, see us at Roundtable, or drop into a meeting. But if you want to attend a meeting, you'd better check on where we're meeting; Crew decides the location, sometimes at the last minute (often in reaction to school assignments).

Okay, so the answer to the last question won't be found at that site. The answer can be found in contacting a member of the Crew. They will guide you the rest of the way. And, like Scouting, it only takes a couple hours a month.

Training Links:

  • BSA Online Learning Center (external link): will require creation of on-line account. Recommend having registration card with council number (082) and member number so when on-line classes are completed, your account will reflect the accomplishment.

Suggestion
Strongly recommend using a FireFox (external link) or Safari (external link) browser. Internet Explorer does not support TikiWiki (external link) display standards.

Objective: The objective of the site is to be the first place a member of BSA Venture Crew 1501 (and their parents, relatives, and friends) will go for all things related to Venture Crew 1501.

Philosophy: Venturers want excitement and fun. We believe "fun" comes from participating in challenges and accomplishing objectives. Excitement comes from not knowing if the physical or emotional stress can accomplish the challenge or objective. There's more of this at Crew Philosophy, Adult Perspective.

Process: In order to benefit from the Venture program, Venturers must attend, participate, achieve, and advance. Details are at Crew Processes.

We also have suggestions for those who'd like to help with the site.
